Nepal Stock Index (Nepse) increased by 12.9 points this week led by gains posted by insurance companies and commercial banks.
The benchmark index, which opened at 493.63 on Sunday, closed at 506.53 on Thursday - the last trading day of the week.
Total transaction amount increased by 17.90 percent to Rs 446.6 million. Share transactions of commercial banks accounted for 61.21 percent of total transaction amount this week. Banking stocks worth Rs 273.3 changed hands during the week.
In terms of transaction amount, Chilime Hydropower Company topped the list with total share transactions worth Rs 64.12 million, followed by Everest Bank with Rs 41.36 million and Nepal Investment Bank with Rs 31.20 million. National Life Insurance and Machhapuchhre Bank remained in the fourth and fifth position.
Anjan Raj Poudel, former president of Nepal Stockbrokers´ Association, said the rise in benchmark is a usual affair in the last week of fiscal year. “The selling pressure is already over as investors must pay interests and installments to loan by the third week of Ashad,” he added.
The sensitive index, which measures the movement of category ´A´ companied increased by 3.29 points to 126.85 this week.
The Insurance sub-index recorded the highest growth of 28.80 points to 917.28, followed by Others sub-index, which gained 23.49 points, and Hydropower sub-index gained 14.13 points.
