Nepali rupee posted gain against US dollar this week as well as the
Indian currency, with which rupee is
pegged, strengthened against the US
currency. Rupee gained a whopping 79 paisa against the greenback over
the week.
Gold price, however, went up by Rs 860 per 10 grams in the domestic market after its prices increased in international bullion market.
CURRENCY
Nepali rupee gained 79 paisa against US dollar over the week, making imports cheaper but lowering export and remittance receipts.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, opened trading on Sunday with exchange rate fixed of US dollar fixed at Rs 96.39. Rupee gained 79 paisa on Monday but shed 59 paisa on Tuesday to close the trading at Rs 96.19. Rupee gained 94 paisa against the greenback on Wednesday after Indian currency strengthened against major currencies.
According to Reuters, the Indian rupee gained modestly on Wednesday as the government eased rules for foreign investment, adding to measures taken by the central bank to suck out rupee liquidity.
Rupee, however, lost 25 paisa on Thursday and another 10 paisa a day later to close the week´s trading at Rs 95.60 on Friday.
The local currency gained 56 paisa against Euro and 68 paisa against British Pound this week. Euro was exchanged at Rs 125.39 on Friday, while British Pound was valued Rs 145.27.
BULLION
Gold became dearer by Rs 860 per 10 grams over the week.
Bullion trading opened this on Sunday with gold priced at Rs 43,210 per 10 grams. The yellow metal became dearer by Rs 430 per 10 grams to Rs 43,640 on Monday. On Tuesday, price of gold increased by another Rs 300 per 10 grams to close at Rs 43,510 per 10 grams. Gold continued to shine, gaining Rs 215 per 10 grams on Wednesday to close at Rs 43,725 per 10 grams.
Though the price dropped by Rs 130 per 10 grams on Thursday, it again gained Rs 475 per 10 grams to close at Rs 44,070 per 10 grams on Friday - the last trading day of the week.
Price of silver, however, went down by Rs 12.5 per 10 grams this week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 699 per 10 grams.
