Rupee slumps to 97.09 against USD, Gold price down by Rs 215 per tola

Nepali rupee slumped to 97.09 against US dollar this week, as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, continued its loosing spree against the greenback. Despite rupee´s depreciation, gold price went down by Rs 215 per 10 grams over the week.

Currency
Nepali rupee lost a whopping Rs 2.63 against US dollar over the week to close at Rs 97.09 on Friday. Currency trading opened this week with exchange rate of rupee against US dollar fixed at Rs 94.46 on Sunday.

 The local currency lost 29 paisa to Rs 94.75 on Monday and another 56 paisa to close at Rs 95.31 on Tuesday after Indian currency shed value against US dollar. The local currency´s freefall continued and it shed Rs 1.38 on Wednesday and another Rs 1.04 on Thursday to close at Rs 97.73. Rupee rallied on Friday - the final trading day of the week, gaining 64 paisa to close at Rs 97.09.

Similarly, the local currency lost a whooping Rs 3.14 against Euro and Rs 2.23 against Pound Sterling. Euro was valued Rs 128.62 on Friday, while the British Pound was exchanged at Rs 147.57.

Bullion

Gold also lost its shine this week as the price of yellow metal went down by Rs 215 per 10 grams this week. The yellow metal was traded at Rs 46,225 on Friday.
Bullion trading opened this week with gold price fixed at Rs 44,840 on Sunday.

Though gold price remained stable on Monday, it increased by Rs 255 per 10 grams to Rs 45,095 on Tuesday. Taking cue from international price movement, gold became dearer by Rs 1,115 to close at Rs 46,210 on Wednesday. However, the price went down by Rs 730 per 10 grams on Thursday. Gold price went down further on Friday, losing Rs 855 per 10 grams the close the week´s trading Rs 44,625 per 10 grams.
Price of silver remained unchanged at Rs 703 per 10 grams this week.
